Maria "Pete" Durgan's Bands and Such

Old songwriting news: The Washington Post MP3 site listed one of my songs, "The Truth is the Same" as an "Editors Pick" for the week of May 4-10, 2003.  I put the song there so a very short list of people could hear it.  I never expected anyone to know it was there, much less recognize it.  I'm happy this happened, however.   If you want to check it out, here's  a link to the MP3 site where you can download the song.

NovaZanz: A jazz group, playing standards and my original stuff.  John Cropp on guitar, RonGoad, Kent Stacks (pictured), or other fabulous people on drums.   Come out and hear me play bass and sing "Summer Samba" and "Killing Me Softly" and Elvis Presley songs.  We have a demo now - click on the site and go to the sounds page.   We're really happy with it.  Check out our website - www.novazanz.com
Dennis Jay and Lonesome Time:  I started playing with Dennis Jay, Washington DC's finest (and possibly only) keeper of the flame of cowboy music.  Lots of fun, check us out! Dennis Jay, Pete, Tim Griffin outside Dangerously Delicious Pies in Baltimore
Jerry Bresee and Friends I'm one of the friends.  Jerry is a terrific singer-songwriter.   He  and I and Kirby Yarborough on Drums makes for a whole lot of soulful jazzy folk.  We're having a great time.

This is Jerry Bresee in the middle, Kirby on the end.

Penny Nichols - I met Penny at her Summer Songs Songwriting Camp.  It was terrific, and Penny is too. I've started playing bass for her when she's within driving distance of the DC area, and we have a great time.  She is one of the best singer/songwriters I know.

SouIbender.  It was comprised of Andy Douglas on drums, Wayne Durgan and myself.  We hosted a Band Showcase at Luna Park Grille in Arlington, VA on the last Thursday of each month.    Here's the jam's webpage  Thanks so much for everyone who came out to  support us.    It was a good run of 3.5 years.

Hey, check out Bassists-In-Front, a bass open mic that happened on October 25, 2003.  Pictures and stuff!  We're going to do it again in the Fall of 2005.
